David Letterman Is No Comedian.

It’s no small wonder that conservatives throughout the nation objected strongly to David Letterman’s crude attempt at humor at the expense of Governor Palin’s daughter Willow. With advertisers bailing out daily, it’s also no surprise that he finally was forced to provide a real apology yesterday.

If you follow the Rasmussen Reports daily briefings, http://www.rasmussenreports.com, you’ll find that 49% of folks in America today now have an unfavorable opinion of Letterman. His first apology was self-protection from angry American parents. I have two daughters and as a parent would never accept a sexual remark about my teenage daughters as funny. It is not acceptable to target teenage girls for a cheap laugh.

Nationally, just 20% of Republicans and 35% of adults not affiliated with either major political party have a favorable opinion of Letterman, compared to 63% of Democrats according to Rasmussen. He dropped nine points after his supposed joke bombed and stayed down with his flippant and insincere apology. That’s one of the biggest problems in politics today. Some will say anything, do anything that even marginally helps their side and see if they get away with it. I am proud of the fact that our Governor stood up to this stuffed shirt.

David Letterman calls himself a comedian. He is not funny. He is a political commentator and resident attack dog for the Liberals. Remember the eight-year barrage of famous quotes of Presidents? Nightly, we were treated to a sterling quote from several presidents then a bobbled stumbling quote from President George W. Bush. The purpose obviously was to take away respect for that President and discredit him. The daily partisan attack against Bush brought down the public’s faith in the Presidency and the government of the United States. You don’t see Republicans personally attacking President Obama. Sure, we disagree with his wild spending and liberal policies but conservatives don’t attack his character or family.

In this morning’s Anchorage Daily News, I was further chagrined with the apologist column by Elise Patkatok written, just like Letterman, to discredit our Governor. Factual error #1: :"our governor decided to pick a fight with David Letterman". No, our Governor went to a baseball game with her daughter Willow. Factual error 2: “her seemingly insane decision to make a big deal out of it.” When someone makes an untrue, disparaging remark about your daughter that intimates statutory rape, to a parent, it is a big deal. And it should be a big deal for all of us, not just the parents whose daughter was verbally assaulted.

Incredibly, Elise blames the Governor for Letterman’s morally bankrupt poor taste. What convoluted logic is that? Yes, she and Todd have kids but that shouldn’t make them targets of every cheap shot huckster who pretends to be a comedian or his defenders. Kids are off limits. The President’s kids are off limits. Republicans respect that. And, Democrats, including their sick comedian attack dogs and columnists, should equally respect it.

Blaming Governor Palin for David Letterman’s “little tawdry dust up” and attempting to shift the responsibility to her is almost as outrageous as Letterman’s moral and ethically repugnant “joke”. As parents, Sarah and Todd Palin did exactly the right thing in calling Letterman on his crude comments. They should be complimented not criticized for their courage. Even Letterman finally issued a sincere apology for his mistaken judgment. So should Elise.
