The Municipality just sent out a press release saying that homeless numbers have increased dramatically since 2007, according to a count conducted this winter by the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation in collaboration with the Municipality of Anchorage and the Anchorage Coalition on Homelessness.

It's important to note that most of the who's considered homeless are not the street people living outside of shelters that I've been writing about.
Here's the breakdown of where 2009's homeless population was living:
With family or friends:54 percent
In a motel:6 percent
In a transitional shelter:14 percent
In an emergency shelter:21 percent
Unsheltered: 5 percent
