This is the place to talk about Alaska politics, state, local, national. Public life in the Last Frontier has rarely been more interesting -- a full slate of federal and state elections, the influence of former Gov. Sarah Palin, the usual hardball Alaska politics. Parnell: Palin didn’t 'reject' the stimulus money

From Kyle Hopkins in Anchorage --
The day after Gov. Sarah Palin announced she wouldn’t be accepting $171.5 million in federal stimulus money for schools, both Palin’s team and critics of her decision are still looking to hammer home their messages.
This morning, acting Anchorage Mayor Matt Claman & schools Superintendent Carol Comeau told reporters that the money would be well spent and that they need it.
Among the questions: If schools use the money to hire more people, wouldn’t that balloon their budgets in the long run?
Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell showed up to deliver Palin’s message – that she’s not necessarily “rejecting” the money, but wants a public debate on how it’s spent and whether it would cost the state in the long run.
Among the questions: Is the governor’s team trying to have it both ways – saying "no" to the money while leaving the door open to spending it?
