Valentine's Day: Sweeten the day for him

Comments (0) |

Valentine’s Day gifts for guys was the subject the last weekend when a friend mentioned a recent complaint her boyfriend had: He told her he’d never had a girl give him underwear.

I laughed at first, and I thought about all of the times I’ve bought boyfriends boxer shorts with fun patterns just because I could or because they were in a bin next to the register. (It’s the like the impulsive candy grab in the check out line at the grocery store—and they know that.) But then I got to thinking about typical romantic gifts promoted and bought for women on Valentine’s Day versus gifts that are advertised for men. And, honestly, for the most part, I drew a big blank.

So I set out earlier this week to find romantic Valentine’s Day gifts for men. Can’t say that I felt all too successful, but here are some ideas (share your own in the comments, too!):

Undergarments
While the selection for men is never as fantastic as it is for women, here are few options that range from fun to sexy:

American Eagle has super-fun patterned boxer briefs ($12.50 or two for $20). Options include camouflage, polka dots, or my personal favorite: the Semi-Formal Boxer Brief.
Nordstrom has very simple (translate: can be sexy) Calvin Klein boxers and boxer briefs ($20) in white, or there’s the 365 Boxer Brief ($22) that, according to the product description is all about maximum comfort all day, anywhere.
Banana Republic has Valentine-themed boxers ($16.50 or buy three and get 25 percent off).

Cologne
I spent some solid time at the local Nordstrom and came up with a few scented selections:
Giorgio Armani’s Acqua Di Gio ($69.50) is a classic, and Armani Code ($65) is a bit fresher, but they’re both balanced men’s scents.
John Varvatos Artisan ($75) is brand new (Nordstrom just got it in Thursday), and it’s a bit addictive. The citrus and herbal notes border on the feminine, but there's something about it that'll keep you coming back for a second whiff.
Burberry’s new men’s cologne, The Beat ($77 and $57), is a bit more masculine with hints of the forest (it’s described as a “woody” fragrance).
