Editor:
How on earth can you leave the story of Sherry Johnston up for so long? Is it because it is getting so many blog comments? Did you know that many of the posters have special names for the Palin family now? Kristolmeth - Bristol, Kristolmethbaby - Bristol's child, etc. . . . The comments are endlessly disgusting and totally reaching beyond vomit. Why are you guys leaving it up for so long? What is the logic behind that?
Look I'm no Palin supporter, however I'm shocked at the disgust with the comments and it appears you all are wanting such ilk by leaving front and practically center of the webpage. Disgusting.
Get the story off the front of the webpage. Please.

If I understand you correctly, you believe the Johnston drug bust story appeared more prominently or stayed on the adn.com home page longer than the typical story, and you may think that was a deliberate effort to sensationalize the story.
That was not the case. That story was not presented more prominently than the run-of-the-mill top local story, nor did it remain on the home page longer than the average story. What you may be reacting to is the fact that there was a bare-bones story one day, followed by a second story with details about the charges the next day. It’s possible you saw a story about the arrest two days in a row and assumed it was the same story for two days.
I share with you a sense of disgust at the crudity of some of the posts and the immaturity of some of the posters. The sad fact is that, in general, the human species seems to operate with a surprisingly thin veneer of civilization. What you see in anonymous posts is essentially a look at the way individual people behave behind closed doors, good and bad.
For me, and I hope for most readers, when I see those disgusting comments, I remind myself that they reveal a lot about the person who wrote them and nothing about the person being written about.
And then I delete them. It’s important that you hit the abuse report button when you see offensive comments. That brings them to our attention, and speeds the process of our deleting the comments and banning the commenters.
