Friday's trooper dispatches

A Fairbanks man who beat up a cabbie and stole his ride Thursday night was arrested a short time later when the stolen vehicle was discovered stuck in a wooded area at the end of a rural road, troopers said. Dispatch is below.

Type: Warrant Arrest

Text: On 12/11/2008 at 2235 hrs, Alaska State Troopers conducted a
traffic stop on a vehicle near Saxman for an equipment violation. One
of the passengers in the vehicle was identified as 21 year old Justin
Dewitt of Saxman. Dewitt was found to have an outstanding no-bail
warrant for his arrest. Dewitt was taken into custody without incident
and remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center.

Location: Wasilla
Case number: 08-102140
Type: MVC-D
Text: On 12-11-08 at approximately 1640 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to the intersection of Bogard Road and Leatherleaf Loop in
Wasilla, for the report of a motor vehicle collision involving two motor
vehicles. Investigation revealed Teresa Ann Huntley age 47 of Wasilla,
was preparing to turn left from Bogard Road onto Leatherleaf Loop when
her 2008 Pontiac was struck on the left side by a 2000 Mitsubishi truck
that was towing a trailer with an ATV and being driven by Vladimar
Berezyuk age 28 of Anchorage.
Both vehicles were eastbound on Bogard Road when Huntley signaled for a
left turn onto Leatherleaf Loop, Berezyuk attempted to pass on the left,
to avoid colliding with the rear of Huntley's vehicle, instead,
sideswiping Huntley's vehicle. Damages to Huntley's vehicle are
estimated at $5000.00. Berezyuk's vehicle sustained minor damage,
estimated at $500.00. The occupants of both vehicles reported wearing
seatbelts and reported no injuries. Berezyuk was issued a citation for
Failure to Exercise Due Care to Avoid a Collision. Investigation also
revealed that the trailer Berezyuk was towing was not registered.
Berezyuk received a second citation for Failure to Register Vehicle.

Location: Wasilla

Type: Burglary
Text: On 12-11-08 at 1718 hours, AST responded to a residence on
Serendipity Loop, near Wasilla for a report of a residential burglary.
Investigation revealed that sometime between 1425 hours and 1705 hours,
unknown person(s) entered threw a back window. Among items taken were
two flat screen T.V.s, a Nintendo Wii, and two laptop computers. The
case is still under investigation. Troopers are asking anyone with
information about the burglary to call 745-2131 or Crime Stoppers at
745-3333.

Type: MVC-D
Text: On 12/11/08 at approximately 1948 hours, AST responded to a two
vehicle collision near the intersection of Wasilla Fishhook and Seldon,
near Wasilla. Investigation showed that a 1997 Ford pickup, driven by
Cody Gray, 29, of Wasilla, was nort bound on Wasilla Fishhook, when a
1998 GMC pickup, driven by Brian Vincent, 39, of Wasilla, was southbound
struck the side of the vehicle driven by Gray as Vincent was making a
left turn into the Tesoro station. There were no injuries and both
drivers reported wearing their seat belts. Both vehicles were able to
be driven away from the scene. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at
approximately $3,000.00.

Type: Motor Vehicle Collision - Damage
Text: On 12/11/2008 at approximately 1700 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a motor vehicle collision on Palmer Fishhook Rd near Brandi
Drive in Palmer. Investigation revealed that Ron Macki, age 65 of
Wasilla, was traveling west on Palmer Fishhook Road in a 1997 Subaru,
when he was struck from behind by a 17 year old male juvenile from
Palmer, who was driving a 1990 Jeep Cherokee. The juvenile was issued a
citation for failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision. There
were no reported injuries. All reported wearing seatbelts and damages
were estimated over $ 2,000.00.

Text: On 12-11-08, at 2329 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted
Gaylene R. Burke, age 47, of Wasilla on the Parks Highway near Weber
Drive, Wasilla during a traffic stop for a moving violation.
Investigation revealed that Burke was driving a motor vehicle without a
valid driver's license. Burke was issued a summons to appear in court.
The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.

Type: MVC-D Moose

Text: On 12-12-08 at approximately 0806 hours, AST responded to a MVC at
mile 57.1 of the Glenn Highway. Investigation revealed that Mary
Blessent, age 59 of Palmer, was traveling N/B on the Glenn Highway, in a
silver 2005 Chevy Equinox, when she hit a moose. No injuries were
reported at the scene. Damage to Blessent's vehicle is estimated at
$5,000.00. Blessent was wearing her seatbelt. No citations were given.

Case number: 08-101998

Type: Assault IV-DV

Text: On 12-11-08 at approximately 0842 hours Kotzebue Troopers received
a report of an assault in the village of Selawik. Investigation
determined that Johnny Mitchell, 53, of Selawik placed a family member
in fear of sustaining imminent physical injury. Mitchell was arrested
without incident and transported to the Kotzebue Regional Jail where he
was held with no bail. Alcohol was not a factor during the incident.

Type: Warrant Arrest

Text: On 12-11-08 at approximately 1311 hours, Kotzebue Troopers
arrested Travis Eveland, 18, of Noorvik for an outstanding day warrant
with the original charge of Minor Consuming Alcohol. Troopers contacted
Eveland while conducting a welfare check at a residence in Selawik.
Eveland was arrested and transported to the Selawik Public Safety
Building and later released after telephonic arraignment.

Type: Welfare Check, Minor Consuming Alcohol x 2

Text: On 12-11-08, State Troopers in Kotzebue received a report of
numerous juveniles ranging in age from 7-17, were left unattended in the
village of Selawik after their mother left to go to Kotzebue. State
Troopers were told that the 17 year old who was supposed to be watching
the other kids was consuming alcohol. State Troopers responded to
Selawik to conduct a welfare check and contacted Travis Eveland, 18, of
Noorvik, Michael Brown, 17, and a male juvenile, 14, both of Selawik
inside the residence. Troopers also found opened containers of alcohol
and a small amount of homebrew inside the residence. The minors were
released to adult family members. Charges of Minor Consuming Alcohol
for Brown and Eveland will be forwarded to the District Attorney's
Office.

Type: Burglary I, Theft II.

Text: On 12/12/08, at approximately 0800 hours, Alaska State Troopers in
Kotzebue received a report of a Burglary in the village of Noorvik.
Investigation revealed that approximately $5000.00 in cash was taken
from the victim's residence at some point during the past four days.
There were no signs of forced entry into the residence. Investigation
is continuing.

Type: Assault IV/DV
Text: On 12/12/08 at 0444 hours, AST Kodiak received a report from a 34
year old female from Port Lions, stating that she had just been
assaulted at her boyfriend's residence. AST and the Port Lions VPSO
responded to the residence to investigate the complaint. After
investigation, Richard John Pestrikoff, 39 years of age from Port Lions
was arrested and charged with Assault in the Fourth Degree/ Domestic
Violence. Pestrikoff was transported into the Kodiak jail and remanded
there.

Type: Death Investigation

Text: On 12-4-08 at approximately 0230 hours AST Kodiak was notified by
19 year old female resident of Kodiak that her neighbor may have died.
AST Kodiak responded to the scene located inside a residence on Lily
Drive. Investigation revealed that 57 year old William C. Amason of
Kodiak died at his residence sometime during the previous 24 hours.
There were no signs of foul play. Next of kin was notified.

Type: Criminal Mischief V, Cruelty to Animals, Criminal Trespass I

Text: On 12/02/08 at 1730 hours, the VPSO in New Stuyahok responded to
a call on the VHF about property being damaged near the teacher housing
units. Investigation revealed that suspect(s) entered a chicken house
that is located near the teacher's housing property and broke a
chicken's leg causing serious pain and injury to the chicken.
Investigation continues.

Case Number: 08-101994

Type: Burglary II, Criminal Mischief III

Text: On 12/11/08 at 0830 hours, 38 year-old Tatiana O'Connor of
Dillingham reported to the Alaska State Troopers in Dillingham that the
Dillingham Superior Court was burglarized. Investigation revealed that
suspect(s) entered the court house after hours and attempted to pry open
a safe. There was no access gained to one safe, but another safe and a
money drawer were damaged and opened. The evidence was collected and
the investigation continues.

Location: Between Oscarville and Tuntutliak

Case number: 08-102293

Type: Search and Rescue

Text: On 12/12/2008, at approximately 0512 hours, the Alaska State
Troopers in Bethel received a call from Tuntutliak Village Public Safety
Officer Wassillie Galilia, who stated he had received a report of four
overdue snow machiner's who were reportedly traveling home to
Tuntutliak from Oscarville. The four overdue person's were indentified
as Galen Frank (age 30 of Tuntutliak), Marcassanra Frank (age of 28
Tuntutliak), Annie Frank (age 61 of Tuntutliak) and an unnamed 4 year
old child. The four individual left the Village of Oscarville at
approximately 0100 hours in blowing wind and snow conditions; traveling
on a black Skidoo Skandic 380 snow machine (with Sled). The three adults
were reportedly intoxicated at the time of their departure from
Oscarville and all were reportedly dressed for the weather. At 0500
hours VPSO Wassillie Galilia received a call from family member Andrew
Frank Jr. who reported the four family members had not arrived in
Tuntutliak as planned. All near by Villages, Bethel Search and Rescue,
and the Rescue Coordination Center were notified of the incident and a
Search and Rescue was initiated for the four missing persons. Search and
Rescue personnel were deployed from both Tuntutliak towards Oscarville
and Napakiak towards Tuntutliak. Alcohol is reported to be involved in
this incident. Updates will follow.

Text: On 12/12/2008 at approximately 1200 hours, Napakiak Search and
Rescue Personnel located Galen Frank, Marcassandr Frank, Annie Frank and
the 4 year old boy at a cabin near Napakiak. The family's snow machine
had run out of oil near the cabin sometime early this morning. All
persons were uninjured and later transported home to Tuntutliak. Alcohol
was reported to be a factor, however all parties were sober when
contacted by Search and Rescue personnel.

Location: Corner of Rezanof Drive and Sunset Drive, Kodiak

Case Number: 08-102247

Type: Arson

Text: On 12-12-08 at approximately 0120 hours AST Kodiak responded to a
report of a vehicle on fire near Mill Bay Beach. Bayside Fire
Department, and AST Kodiak, responded to the area. The vehicle, a blue
1992 Chrysler LaBaron, was found on the corner of a vacant lot at the
intersection of Rezanof Drive and Sunset Drive. The vehicle was a total
loss. Evidence at the scene indicate the fire was a result of arson.
The license plates on the vehicle were from a difference make and model
of vehicle. The vehicle was identified by is Vehicle Identification
Number and found to be registered to a 21 year old male resident of
Kodiak. The registered owner of the vehicle is currently wanted on a
$2,500 warrant for Failure to Comply with Conditions of Probation,
original charge attempted 1st degree arson. This case is still under
investigation.

Case Number: 08-99577

Type: Assault IV

Text: On 12/02/08 at 1830 hours, the VPSO in New Stuyahok responded to
a report of a disturbance at a residence in New Stuyahok. Investigation
revealed that 27 year-old Evan Chunak of New Stuyahok was causing a
disturbance at his residence which placed his 30 year-old sister in fear
of being assaulted. Her four children were present within the residence
during the disturbance. Chunak was arrested on one charge of assault IV
and four counts of reckless endangerment. Chunak was transported to the
Dillingham Correctional facility and held on $1500.

Text: On December 11, 2008, at about 2043 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received a report of a shoplifter at Fred Meyer West in Fairbanks.
Investigation revealed that Ventsislav Hurd, 18 of Livengood, stole
$47.99 worth of merchandise, then fled the store. Hurd was captured,
arrested and remanded to FCC.

Location: Becker Ridge Road, Fairbanks

Case number: 08-102211

Type: MVC-D

Text: At approximately 2200 hours on 12-11-08 Dustin Harrison, 34, of
North Pole reported to AST that he had rolled his 1974 Mack
tractor/trailer loaded with logs on Becker Ridge Rd. Investigation
revealed that Harrison was driving his truck on Becker Ridge Rd. when he
lost control of his vehicle on the icy roadway. After the vehicle slid
off the roadway it cut a guy wire to an electrical pole which resulted
in a brief power outage in the area. The vehicle finally came to rest
on its side approximately 1/2 mile from the intersection with Cripple
Creek Road. There were no injuries, and the estimated cost of damage to
the vehicle was $5000.00. Harrison was issued a citation for failing to
have a seatbelt installed in his commercial motor vehicle.

Case number: 08-102206

Type: Robbery 2, Vehicle theft 1, Assault 4, DUI

Text: On 12/11/08 at about 2110 hours, a cab driver called AST to report
that his cab had just been stolen. He had picked up a male and female
at a bar, and after he got to the requested destination near Chena Pump
Road, the male client punched him in the face repeatedly, removed him
from the cab, and then left in the cab with the female.

At about 2320 hours, AST received a report that a cab had been stuck in
the trees for over an hour at the end of a rural residential road near
where the robbery had occurred. When AST arrived, they found the stolen
cab occupied by the female and Hank Dolecki, 24, of Fairbanks and
Talkeetna. The female was immediately compliant, but Dolecki refused to
get out of the vehicle. After a 10-15 minute standoff, Dolecki
surrendered. He was arrested and eventually booked into FCC on charges
of robbery 2, vehicle theft 1, assault 4, and DUI. He was held without
bail.

Type: Warrant Arrest

Text: On 12-11-08, Delta AST contacted Jonathan HARRIS, 33 of Delta
Jct., at M.P. 269 Richardson Highway. HARRIS' pickup was in the
emergency lane with no lights illuminated, and was a possible traffic
hazard. A check of APSIN records showed that HARRIS had an outstanding
$1500.00 bench warrant for Failure to Appear for a hearing. HARRIS was
placed under arrest and was transported to Fairbanks Correctional
Center.

Type: Drove Without Insurance

Text: On 12-11-08 at approximately 1610 hours, Delta AST contacted
Jonathan HARRIS, 33 of Delta Jct., at M.P. 269 Richardson Highway.
HARRIS' 1987 Ford pickup had broke down and was requiring emergency
lighting for traffic safety. During the contact with HARRIS, it was
learned that he had driven the pickup without liability insurance, a
criminal offense. HARRIS was issued a Summons to Appear charging him
with one count of Driving Without Liability Insurance Policy or
Coverage.

Text: On 12-12-08 at 1043 hrs, Troopers received a report from Adult
Probations that Jessie Chandler 31, of North Pole was in violation of
her probation by leaving the North Pole area without a travel permit.
Chandler was contacted in Delta Junction and was arrested for a
probation violation. Chandler was transported and remanded to the
Fairbanks Correction Center without bail.

Type: Motor Vehicle Collision - Injury

Text: On 12/11/08, at 1631 hours, the Alaska State Troopers responded to
a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Farmers Loop Road near Summit
Road. Investigation revealed that Robin Wood, 21, of Fairbanks was
driving his 2000 Ford F150 north on Farmers Loop Road near Summit Road
when he swerved to avoid a cardboard box in the middle of the road.
Wood lost control of the vehicle and struck a 1995 Subaru SVX operated
by 27 year old Anna Berezyuk of Fairbanks. Both Wood and Berezyuk
reported wearing seatbelts and received minor injuries. The damage to
both vehicles was estimated at $10,000.

Type: No Motor Vehicle Insurance

Text: On 12-11-08 at about 2208 HRS Matthew Churchill, 37 of Nikiski,
was stopped for an equipment violation as he was driving a 1991 Jeep
Cherokee near 20-mile Kenai Spur Hwy in Nikiski. Churchill did not have
motor vehicle insurance coverage for the vehicle and was issued a
Uniform Summons and Complaint for such.

Type: No Motor Vehicle Insurance

Text: On 12-11-08 at about 0140 HRS Daniel Wight, 24 of Soldotna, was
stopped for an equipment violation as he was driving a 1990 Toyota
4Runner at about 22-mile K-Beach Rd in Soldotna. Wight did not have

Text: On 12/9/08 at approximately 2046 hours, AST received a report of a
domestic disturbance at a residence near mile 141 of the Sterling
Highway, in Ninilchik. Investigation revealed that Robert Self, age 58
of Ninilchik, placed his wife in fear of being injured during an
argument. Self was arrested for DV Assault IV and was remanded to Homer
Jail without bail.

Text: On 12/12/08 at about 1630 AST contacted Viliamu Tauanuu Jr., 26
of Anchorage at the Cordova Center in Anchorage. Subsequently, Tauanuu
was arrested on an outstanding $7500.00 arrest warrant for failure to
appear. Original charges were Vehicle theft in the first degree,
Driving with a revoked drivers license, and providing false information.
Tauanuu was remanded to the Anchorage Jail without incident.

Text: On 12-12-08 at approximately 1500 hours the AST Bureau of Highway
Patrol, South Central Team responded to a residence on Winding Brooke
Drive, in Wasilla for a report of a male with a warrant at the
residence. Investigation revealed Jeremy D. Simile, age 21, of Wasilla
had a $500.00 warrant for his arrest. The warrant was for failure to
appear on the original charge of DWLR. Simile was arrested for the
warrant and remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where he was remanded
on $500.00 bail.

Text: On 12/12/2008 at approximately 1411 hrs, the AST Bureau of Highway
Patrol, Northern Team contacted a male who was hitchhiking on a
controlled access highway near mile 35 of the Glenn Hwy., outside
Palmer. Investigation revealed Joshua C. Digman, age 38, of Anchorage,
had an extraditable arrest warrant out of Sonoma California. Digman was
arrested for Fugitive From Justice and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial
Facility and held on a $10,000 bail as he awaits extradition to
California.
