Friday's trooper dispatches

An Anchorage man stopped for reckless driving in Wasilla has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing drugs with the intent to distribute them, troopers said. Dispatch is below.

Type: DUI, Fail to Carry Liability Insurance

Text: On 11/20/08, at 1704 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a
report of an intoxicated male operating a vehicle on Mosquito Lake Road.
At 1810 hours, Troopers located the vehicle on Mosquito Lake Road and
contacted the driver Marcus Church, age 21 of Haines. Investigation
revealed that Church was impaired and he was arrested for DUI. Church
was transported to Haines Police Department were he was remanded.
Church was also cited for Failure to Carry Liability Insurance.

Type: Misconduct Involving Weapons in the third Degree and Misconduct
Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree
Text: On 11/21/2008, approx. 0218 hours, Alaska State Troopers stopped a
black 1996 Chrysler 2-door sedan along the Parks Highway near Nye Ford
as a suspect vehicle in a reckless driving report. Investigation
revealed that the driver, 35 yoa Michael W. Finch of Anchorage, was
driving the vehicle while in possession of an amount of illegal
controlled substance for the purpose of distribution. Finch is also a
previously convicted felon and was found to be in possession of a
handgun at the time of the traffic contact. Finch was remanded to MSPT
where he was held on a total bail amount of $5,000.00. The
investigation is continuing.

Type: Warrant Arrest
Text: On 11-21-08 at approximately 0230 hours Alaska State Troopers
received the report of a disturbance at a residence on Crazy Pearson's
Drive in Wasilla. At the residence State Troopers contacted Caitlyn B.
Gawley, age 22 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Gawley had one
no-bail warrant for her arrest for Failure to Appear in Court on the
original charge of Driving While License Suspended. Gawley was arrested
and transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial where she was remanded into custody.

Type: Operating in Violation of Instruction Permit
Text: On 11/21/08 at approximately 0139 hours, Alaska State Troopers
conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Mile 51 of the Parks Highway
for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed Angela Bauslaugh,
age 18 of Wasilla, was driving in violation her instructional permit and
failed to show proof of insurance. Bauslaugh was issued a summons to
appear in court for operating in violation of her instructional permit,
issued a citation for failure to provide proof of insurance and
released. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.

Type: DWLR, False Information or Report
Text: On 11/21/08 at approximately 0028 hours, the AST South Central
DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle at mile 47 of the Parks Hwy. for
an equipment violation. Investigation revealed the driver, Jessica L.
Raschke, age 22, of Wasilla, was operating the vehicle with a revoked
driver's license. Raschke also identified herself with a false name
during the investigation. Raschke was arrested from Driving While
License Revoked and Making A False Report to a Police Officer. Raschke
was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where she was held on a
$500.00 bail.

Text: On 11/21/2008 at approximately 0146 hours the AST South Central
DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of
Hollywood Rd. and Vine Rd. outside Wasilla for a moving violation. The
operator of the vehicle was identified as Stefan L. Whitis, age 35, of
Wasilla. Whitis was found to be operating the vehicle with a suspended
driver's license. Whitis was issued a summons to appear in the Palmer
Court for DWLS. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.

Type: Comfort One Death

Text: On 11-20-08, at approximately 0930 hours, AST was advised of an
expected home death near Copper Center. The deceased was identified as
Debra J. St. Amand, 52yoa, of Copper Center. St. Amand had been
suffering from stage 4 cancer and Comfort One paperwork was on file. St.
Amand's next of kin was present at the time of death. The SME has been
notified and has released the body to the family. At this time funeral
arrangements are under way, no funeral home has been selected. There is
not foul play suspected in this case.

Type: Arrest Warrant, for Theft in the Second Degree (6 counts).
Text: On 11/20/2008, at approximately 1600 hours, William Solomon III
age 34, of Anchorage, was contacted and arrested by Court Service
Officers at Mat Su Pretrial and remanded on the Anchorage warrant. Bail
was set at $5000 cash only.

Type: Search and Rescue

Text: On 11-21-08, at approximately 0932 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received report from a concerned citizen regarding a disoriented male
who was attempting to go hiking in the woods off Sunrise Road near
Wasilla without proper cold weather gear. The citizen reported that the
male was last seen walking into the woods north of Sunrise Road. AST
arrived to the area and located the individual at approximately 1058
hours. The male was identified as Gregory W. Smith, age 38, of Eagle
River. Smith was in a hypothermic state and was transported to Mat-Su
Borough medical personnel who were staged on Mcrae Road. At
approximately 1312 hours, Smith was transported by EMS to Mat Su
Regional Medical Center for treatment of hypothermia.

Type: MVC-D

Text: On 11-21-08 at approximately 0910 hours, AST responded to a Motor
Vehicle Collision at the intersection of Palmer Wasilla Highway (PWH)
and Hyer Road. Maria Cramer, age 35 of Palmer, was traveling westbound
on PWH and was stopped at the Hyer Road intersection, in a gray 2007 GMC
Denali, when Kaylee Hoff, age 23 of Wasilla, traveling westbound on PWH,
in a white 1996 Toyota 4-door car, hit the rear end of Cramer's vehicle.
No injuries were reported at the scene. Both driver's reported that they
were wearing their seatbelts. Damage to Cramer's vehicle is estimated at
$1,500.00 and Hoff's vehicle is estimated at $3,000.00. Hoff was cited
for Basic Speed.

Type: Burglary II, Theft III

Text: On 11-21-2008 at approximately 1445 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a business located on Blue Lupine Dr near Wasilla for a
report of a theft. Investigation revealed that an unknown person had
entered the business sometime during the evening on 11-20-2008 and had
taken approximately $240 in cash from a safe. Investigation of this
case continues. Anyone with information regarding this case is

Type: Motor Vehicle Crash - Damage
Text: On 11/21/08 at approximately 1247 hours, Talkeetna AST responded
to Mile 71.5 of the Parks Highway for a report of a single vehicle
crash. Subsequent investigation revealed that David Stewart, 52 of
North Pole, was driving a 1998 Dodge pickup southbound while pulling a
trailer when he lost control of his truck on the icy roadway. Stewart's
truck departed the West side of the highway and jackknifed totaling out
his truck and causing approximately $1,500 damage to the trailer.
Stewart was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.
Stewart was not cited for the crash and was released from the scene.
Stewart's vehicle and trailer were towed from the scene.

Text: On 11/17/08 at approximately 1945 hours, the Yukon Kuskokwim
Correctional Center in Bethel reported that James Anaver, 18 yoa, of
Bethel had walked away from the Tundra Center in Bethel. Investigation
is ongoing.

Type: Reckless Driving

Text: On 11-18-08, at approximately 1330 hours, Alaska State Troopers in
McGrath received a report of a snow machine driving recklessly. Loretta
Maillelle age 41 of McGrath reported that while walking down Joaquin St.
she was almost struck by a reckless snow machine. VPSO Parker conducted
an investigation that determined Gary Egrass Jr., age 22 of McGrath was
driving the snow machine. Egrass was issued a summons for Reckless
Driving and released.

On 11/19/08, Village Public Safety Officer Peratrovich contacted Morgan
Annogiyuk, 57 yoa of Savoonga, at his residence for a welfare check.
Investigation determined that Annogiyuk was in violation of his
conditions of probation and he was arrested and transported to AMCC
without incident.

Text:On 11/21/08 Aniak AST arrested Nina Wise, 42, for an outstanding
warrant in the amount of $1000.00 issued by the Anchorage Court.

Wise was held at the Aniak post. She will be transported to YKCC in
Bethel and remanded in lieu of bail on 11/22/08.

Weather conditions prohibited the transport to Bethel on 11/21/08.

Type: Violating a Domestic Violence Protective Order
Text: On 11-21-08, at 0840 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a
complaint of a violating a Domestic Violence Protective Order.
Investigation revealed Con L. Compton, 23 of Fairbanks, had called the
petitioner on the telephone the same morning of the complaint. Compton
was arrested for the violation without incident and was transported and
remanded at Fairbanks Correctional Center, where he was held without
bail.

Text: On 11/20/08, at about 1350 hours, a Cooper Landing based State
Trooper stopped a vehicle at mile 56 of the Seward for erratic driving.
The driver Crystal Jackson, 43 yoa of Seward, was subsequently arrested
for DUI and DWLR. Jackson was transported to the Seward Jail and
remanded without incident. Bail was set at $1,000.

AK Wildlife Troopers

Location: Petersburg - Sukoi Islets

Case number: 08-92492 / 08-92493

Type: Sport Fish Unlawful Methods - Illegal Long Line Gear

Text: On 11-7-08 Alaska Wildlife Troopers on board the PV Enforcer
contacted the FV Chelsea K outside of the Sukoi Islets at it worked long
line gear. Investigation showed the operator Steven T. Davis, age 48 of
Petersburg, AK and Ronald A. Skeens, age 50 of Winner, SD were sport
fishing for halibut by setting approximately 300 baited hooks, to a long
line with intentions to retain the halibut for a home pack. At the time
of contact they had 18 halibut on board the vessel. The use of a long
line with more than 2 hooks is prohibited in the taking of halibut.
Davis and Skeens were issued summonses for the illegal gear and given an
arraignment date of December 18, 2008 at 1000 hours in the Petersburg
District Court. The halibut were seized and donated to a local charity.

Text: On 11/21/08 at 1500 hours, Bennie A Howard, age 26, of Anchorage,
was arrested at the Anchorage Jail on a warrant charging Howard with 8
Counts of Forgery in the Second Degree; Theft in the Second Degree and
Theft in the Second Degree (Access Device). Howard was remanded to the
Anchorage jail with bail set at $5,000 Cash or Corporate with a Third
Party Custodian Condition.
