McCain Campaign Plans To Keep Palin Away From The Press

McCain Campaign Plans To Keep Palin Away From The Press
Yesterday, McCain adviser Nicole Wallace dismissed the fact that Gov. Sarah Palin has yet to take any questions from the press. “So what?” she scoffed. Today on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, campaign strategist Rick Davis suggested Palin might never sit down for an interview if, he said, it’s “in our best interest” to keep her away from the media:

SCARBOROUGH: Yesterday Nicole Wallace suggested that she was sitting right there and told Jay Carney of Time magazine ‘Sarah Palin doesn’t have to talk to you, she doesn’t’ have to talk to the press.’ … Can we expect Sarah Palin on Meet the Press and other one on one interviews throughout the course of this campaign?

DAVIS: We’re going to do whatever we think is the best to win. We have 60 days left and if we think it’s a good idea to go out there and do those shows, we’ll do them.

SCARBOROUGH: Can you avoid it? Meet the Press?

DAVIS: We can afford anything we want to do. … We’re going to do what we think is in our best interest. If that means access to the press, we’ll give it to you.

Watch it:

The McCain campaign reportedly told the Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder not to expect any one-on-one interviews with Palin any time soon. Despite McCain’s pledge of transparency — even proposing a regular President’s question time with Congress modeled after the British version — he has been shutting off press access for months. Yesterday, a Time reporter explained that McCain bizarrely refused to answer his questions, “like he’d been body-snatched.”

Davis insisted that “there are no strings attached” to media access to McCain. Yet just this week, McCain abruptly canceled an interview with Larry King as punishment for a tough CNN interview with one of his spokesmen. What’s more, top McCain aide Mark Salter said that “only the good reporters” would get the best seats in the new campaign plane. “You have to earn it,” he said.

Davis told MSNBC that Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) “didn’t do a single interview until a week after his nomination,” but the assertion is false. Biden and Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) sat for an interview with 60 Minutes “just moments after” Obama left the stage at the Democratic convention

And this is open and transparent?

Leaving the voters in the dark for days after her acceptance speech. She has repeated this speech over and over again. Nothing new, just recycled.

McCain is using her attempt

McCain is using her attempt at selling the jet on ebay over and over yet, from what I've read, it didn't go quite like he is implying. She tired four times to sell the jet on ebay? While making payments all the while? She had a broker standing by? Evil Knievel had an ambulance standing by too but enough with the ebay reference McCain, it's getting old and by now most people know the whole ebay thing wasn't quite like he says.

And then the bridge to nowhere? CBS had a clip from that time showing her saying yes to the bridge and no we hear she said "no thanks". What's up with that?

MSNBC did an article on her expenses but in fall fairness to Gov. Palin it was a lame attempt to make her look bad as they also added the spending dollars from the previous Gov.. Kudo's to Palin , as compared to the Gov. before, she was a tight wad.

And then the whole library issue, I'm sure by now there are some pointed questions waiting for Gov. Palin about that.

I'll give her this though, from the pictures I've seen of her interacting with the people of Alaska, the woman is right there and involved with everything.

The video of her speaking to her church and attaching God's will to the war in Iraq didin't go over well with me.

The only problem with telling the media to back off until they are ready is, the media had been digging and will be waiting for her. Family issues are off limits but I'm sure the issue of Palin's abstinence stand might be tempting to address due to her daughter being pregnant and unmarried.

I can see why

From what I just saw on TV, Sarah didn't know that Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae are privately held companies. And from what I've seen her environental policies are just sick. It might play well in Alaska, but dead wolves and dead polar bears aren't going to play well in the rest of the country. Those of you living in Alaska are the ones that are going to see the climate change, (that Sarah Palin apparently doesn't believe in), first, so I wonder about the folks up in Alaska and that 80% approval rating?! I think the more she has to talk, the more we'll find out that she doesn't really know what she's talking about. Very poor, cynical choice by McCain.

Okay, put me in the 20 percent category.

I'm not sure what state you're writing from, but I'm here in Alaska. There are some things that bother me about Sarah Palin and I don't mind putting myself in the line of fire to talk about them.

First of all, the wolf killing policy, labeled under "wildlife management" to supposedly increase the population of moose and caribou. In other words, to eliminate a good portion of the predators, namely wolves and bears. Sarah Palin promotes this agenda.

The state has given biologists the go-ahead to shoot wolves from airplanes, in certain game management units, for several years now. It was put up for vote to the Alaska people three times as far as I know. Two times the people rejected it and said no. It was on the ballot this year again, and the people approved it. It's my opinion that many people who did vote for it did so mistakenly because of the way the ballot was worded. But anyway, the people's vote is only to let the state know how we feel about it. It doesn't mean that what we think or vote becomes law. A lot of people are upset about this.

But what's even more unsettling is the fact that biologists this past Spring hunted down dens with wolf cubs and killed all the cubs. They didn't report this at first because they knew how upset people would be by the news. And guess what- it was upsetting!

I've always held the view that there will never be enough moose and caribou for the wants and needs of the people because of the population growth of the people. The population of people keeps expanding and the growth of the caribou and moose can't keep up. So the state's answer is to just get rid of the competition.

I do feel for the people in the Native villages who need this meat for their subsistence, but again, the numbers of moose, especially, just can't keep up with the people population. I've learned a lot about wolves in the years I have been up here in Alaska and have come to understand their social order and way of life. The wolves, too, have families.

There's more but I've went on long enough for now. I'm not a die hard environmentalist by any means, but I do care about ALL our wildlife. Go ahead and put me in the 20% category of Alaskans who have misgivings

It isnt that hard

to figure out. Liberals are looking for anything and everything they can find to throw at McCain and Palin. Why on earth would the campaign thrust Sarah in front of a hostile media. Does she need to be answer to all the garbage thats been put out, first by crazy left blogisphere and then parroted by the media? NO.

What Gov. Palin needs to answer is where she stands on the important issues this country faces. She needs to demonstarte that she understands the complexities of our economy, energy, foriegn affairs, and all the other issues important to Americans.

The press is NOT the place to do that, where it can be chopped into nice little snippets and used against her. If they were interested in reporting, sure. But they have proven otherwise.

She will be on the stump talking to voters and will debate Joe Biden. She will be asked the same questions Biden will be asked. I have no doubt that the country will know who she is and what she stands for well before election day.

RELAX!!!

Exactly! I agree with you!...

We can find out everything we need to learn before election day.
Plus if she waits longer it gives the press less time to research the truths and lies.
No bones there....it is an advantage to keep all information about policies till later!!! The Americans and the press that researches for the public can all wait till the Republican party feels it is good for them to release to the public what she believes....or what she is told to believe.
You know it gives the party more time to train her on how to act and what to say also.
It could look that way and it could be a negative.
Is she ready to be treated like the rest or not?

I think their an awesome team

Reminds me of Kennedy and Reagan

I have been criticized many times for printing posts about MCcain/Palin.

I love these two. I know its what America needs in Washington. Sarah Palin can give John Mccain pointers.

After watching Gov. Palin's

After watching Gov. Palin's Convention speech I would say she's up to the task of answering any questions put to her by the press. A little lipstick and she should be ready to take them all on.

Talk NOW Palin!

This is bullsh*t!!

She'll talk when they say she'll talk? Yeah, well WE the American voters, you know WE the People of the United States, the ones who LIVE here, we want Palin to start answering questions. Not in two week and not when "they" think she's ready. If she is supposed to be ready to step in and lead this country now then she should be ready to answer some questions now.

Whats the problem McCain?

They're afraid she'll put her foot in her mouth

She has no experience. She can't run a country with the experience she has. My high school class was larger than what she governs and she got help with that. I know kids in high school with more experience then she has and that's from the time they spend going on field trips to the Capitol and City Hall.

The media is frenzied right now and as unethical as they are behaving, I certainly wouldn't want to be in an interview (interrogation) with any "reporter".

Well, there is no reason for

Well, there is no reason for her to stand up in front of a bunch of media who is going to waste her time and everyone else's, asking questions about her private life. We have seen the ugly spin that has been put on Obama and his family and she has had the same ugly spin put on hers. I say enough of that as I'd like to hear about her stand on the issues and not the gossip about her family. Apparently she is giving an interview soon and we all will get to know more about her. Will that make me vote for her? I've learned never to say never but at this point I'm leaning towards Biden with Obama as an aside.

My first post was pretty angry and thinking on that ,I think my anger was more aimed at Sen. McCain. When I first heard he had picked a woman and then heard more about Gov. Palin, my first impression was that she was being used by the Republican party as nothing more than a pretty face, mother with five children, and a Gov. of a state that has what he'd like to have without a hassel and that's the oil and gas. People were lead to believe that her Convention speech was written before she was even picked and was changed only enough to accommodate a female speaker. When the rumors flew that she was being kept away from the press until the Republican Party said she could speak, all I could think of was she was being told what she should and could say. I'm sure there has to be some boundaries on the depth of the VP's replies but it came across as being demeaning to Gov. Palin as an individual with individual thoughts on the issues. I must say she did seem to enjoy giving her Convention speech but regardless.

Again, after reading about her I can't imagine her letting herself be used like some piece of meat to just get votes for McCain but again, she is a loyal Republican and may see it as her duty to step up when asked to. The issue of experience and her ability to assume the role of President should something happen to McCain is as concerning to voters as Obama's abiltiy to lead should he become the next President., thank God for Sen. Biden.

I'm a mother myself and I'd be biting my tongue to not tell reporters to shove off.

Our governor Sarah doesn't need to talk. You outsiders make up your minds about what is right or wrong and pass it on in a blog like this whether it is true or not.
From a lot of the posts I see on here, most of you.
Outsiders spread nonsense and untruths anyway and it wouldn't make any difference what she did have to say.
I have an idea!! Why don't you Not vote the McCain /Palin ticket and vote for Barak Hussein Obama? You would feel right at home cause he has no clue either.

Ok, so check THIS out. Sarah Palin is running for the Vice President of the UNITED STATES. NOT just Alaska. OK? Outsiders have the right to ask questions. Wouldn't you be asking questions if the nominee came from, say, Hawaii? Nah, ya probably wouldn't......

Outsiders??? Uh yeah, we are

Outsiders??? Uh yeah, we are all part of the same country here pal and if you bothered to look before you spoke, you would have seen that "you bloggers" doesn't even include me.

All I asked was to hear you Gov. answer questions. John McCain has made experience the issue from day one and after hearing over and over "but is he ready to lead from day one"? I'd like to know if Gov. Palin is ready to lead from day one. The fact that Sen. McCain is an older man has a lot to do with the "is she ready to lead" part and is more minds than just this lone poster from the lower 48 States.

If I had made up my mind about Gov. Palin already I certainly would not care if she answered any questions that were pointed at Gov. Palins ability to lead our country should she have to. Considering the idea you suggested, that I vote for Obama, you certainly have given this voter a peak into mindset of Alaskans?

LOL.."our governor doesn't need to talk to you"???? Well, my friend whether she talks to me or not isn't an issue here but if your speaking for her then I'd be worried if she were to take that attitude with someone like Vladimer Putin, you know the guy with nuclear weapons or maybe Mohmoud Ahmadinejad the guy who wants nuclear weapons.

But keep in mind, there are a lot of "outsiders" out there who each have a vote to cast and if everyone of them were to run into you with your 'slam the door in their face attitude' Gov. Palin will be lucky to get any of them.
