Strong bodies: fitness & health

This blog will cover all city and statewide bodybuilding competitions and the out-of-state guest posers. Weight-loss success stories from local people, features/bios on bodybuilding, fitness and figure competitors, coverage of fad diets. Nutritious recipes and reviews on local gyms and health food stores. I would also like to cover Adult/Childhood Obesity in America and specifically,Alaska. Weight-lifting techniques/safety as well as the benefits for women. This is just a general idea, as the blog will be constantly evolving.

Hiking Mt. Marathon

I have hiked Seward's notorious Mt. Marathon about 5 times since I've been an Alaskan, no I haven't run the race...yet.... but I'm sure one day I will break down and go for it. Until then, I enjoy taking people on the hike because the beauty surrounding you and the amazing view of Seward below are really insurmountable- you must take pictures in order to prove you were immersed in such an incredible place. Not only that, the physical aspect of it is quite challenging! It's definitely not a forgiving mountain, so being in great physical condition is a must- unless you don't mind making the news because you got airlifted off!

Just getting startedJust getting started

Mt. Marathon is a hike I usually save for the end of the summer and it's become a kind of traditional August accomplishment. This summer my Fitness Boot Camp clients and I all decided we would make a big weekend of it and jumped in a motorhome to spend all day Saturday hiking. Even though we got separated from each other a few times, we all met up at certain points to reunite and make sure everyone was OK.

No one complained or gave up and it was a very enjoyable experience for everyone. I was thrilled to share this amazing climb with all of the people I have been training with over the summer- and I will say, every one of them was in stellar shape! This hike will surely be our "end of summer accomplishment" every year and a magnificant goal to attain.

Halfway upHalfway up

I'm very fortunate to have such unique bonds with all of the people I train. Each person is so very special to me and it's a privilege to be someone in their lives who inspires and motivates them, I really believe being a Personal Trainer must be the best job on earth!

I just wanted to thank everyone who came along on this journey and made the weekend one I won't ever forget!

Hiking Mt. Marathon was a wonderful feat for me. I would not have attempted this hike had it been for the exceptional training provided by you Steph. The positive encouragement and education you have taught me is unsurmountable. Thank you for being you.

Thanks to you all...

A huge thank you to Steph and all the girls for making this a weekend full of fun! Climbing Mt Marathon was challenging but tremendously rewarding and something I've always wanted to do. Tackling the mountain with such an amazing and fun group of women made it all that much better. The memories we made will stick with me forever and I can't wait until we all do it again next year! You guys are the best!
