From Sean Cockerham in Anchorage --
Hays Research today released this poll saying Barack Obama is leading John McCain in Alaska. It's the first time I’ve ever seen a poll putting Obama in the lead in this Republican state.
I’m not sure what to make of it -- particularly since this Rasmussen Reports poll conducted just a week earlier showed McCain holding a six-percentage point lead over Obama in Alaska.
The Hays survey was conducted Aug. 6-7th and included 400 respondents. It shows Obama leading McCain 45 percent to 40 percent, with a margin of error at plus or minus 4.9 percent.
Ten percent of those polled were undecided, 2 percent went with Ralph Nader, and 2 percent chose another one of the presidential candidates that are running this year.
In other presidential race news, the Republican mayor of Fairbanks, Jim Whitaker, is endorsing Obama. You can check out the News-Miner story on it here.
