Charlie is just a plain ol' ordinary 4-5 year old 16 pound brown tabby who was initially pulled out of Animal Control in 2007. He was adopted fairly quickly by a family in Eagle River who promised him a lifetime home. In June I received a call from Animal Control because this “lifetime” family dumped him off there instead of calling me as it states in the contract citing ‘allergies’. But I regress.
A family with a small child, about 5 years old, was looking for a cat that would get along with their son and big dog. I thought Charlie would be a good match and they wanted to meet him. Even though they were looking to adopt a declawed cat, and Charlie isn’t, his award winning personality and soulful eyes won them over. They would do a trial period and see if he worked out.
It seems their young son experiences night terrors on a regular basis with recurring nightmares of a burning dog and wakes up screaming. Charlie took right to the son. Mom says ever since they brought Charlie home, he sleeps with their son. Every night when she puts Logan to bed, Charlie goes to bed with him. Mom says Charlie lays down right next to Logan and puts his paw on his arm. He stays there long after Logan is asleep and sometime around 1-1:30 in the morning, he wanders into the parent’s room. She states ever since Charlie started sleeping with Logan, he hasn’t experienced a night terror since. Says Charlie is definitely a keeper.
What a happy ending for this transient and discarded cat. Cats have a keen sense of things, just look at the cat that curls up to the elderly just before they die.
I thought this was such a sweet story and was worth sharing.
