TASTE! Alaska

Explore and learn about all aspects of the local food scene. Together we can see what’s going on at restaurants, the markets and products as well as unique artisan items that make Alaska just a little different. Artwork by Lee Post, used with permission.

PRODUCTS I USE

Moosetard: gourmet Alaska mustards

Alaska Chip Company

Potato chips made only from Alaska potatoes.

Alaska Birch Syrup

Made from birch tree sap and available in four flavors. Medium is the best to cook with.I use it for a birch syrup-brown butter sauce over pastas and incorporate it with crème brulees. Currently I'm using birch syrup to glaze pork belly for a summer dish.

Simple Pleasures of Alaska

Producers of spruce tip syrup, kelp pickles and other unique items out of Sitka.

Alaska Native-made jams, jellies and syrups

For thousands of years Alaskan Natives handpicked plump, sweet, wild berries. Today local and tribal residents continue this tradition, bringing some of these wonderful berries to our modern kitchen.

Assist Father Whine at Bernie's

This was forwarded to me (by my wife) just giving you something to do at a great Anchorage location.

Father Whine Says-
I need to convince 5 of you to attend our very first
Wednesday Wine and Cheese Tasting at Bernies Paradise Room
Of course after reading this, you may each end up accompanying 5 more of your friends for a true to life upside down pyramid.

This event is organized by Pamela of La Bodega, a little wine shop at the University Center , Larissa of Specialty Import, local wine importer, Carolyn Kinneen , master organizer, and myself, Father Whine.

This is a fun $30 weekly event starting this Wednesday at 5pm featuring wines from Espana.

Each week will feature fun tastings, we provide the space, the wine, the occasion; you provide me with one great whine story, the best whine story will be rewarded with a free pass. All we need is some of you each week to spot the summer from the balcony with a few glasses of wine, cheese, old friends and make a few new friends along the way.

If I don't see all of you this Wednesday, I'm hopeful to have your presence in the future.

How to contact you?

Rob: It might be a good idea to include an email address so that readers can write you about food events you may not have heard about (if that is possible!). I've been enjoying your blog, thanks for doing it.
