Strong bodies: fitness & health

This blog will cover all city and statewide bodybuilding competitions and the out-of-state guest posers. Weight-loss success stories from local people, features/bios on bodybuilding, fitness and figure competitors, coverage of fad diets. Nutritious recipes and reviews on local gyms and health food stores. I would also like to cover Adult/Childhood Obesity in America and specifically,Alaska. Weight-lifting techniques/safety as well as the benefits for women. This is just a general idea, as the blog will be constantly evolving.

I competed in my first bodybuilding competition as a senior at East High in 2000 and after winning the overall title, bodybuilding and fitness became my passion. I've been a NASM certified personal trainer since 2004 and I love helping people achieve their goals with fitness and proper nutrition. My overall bodybuilding titles include: Ms. Anchorage 2006 and The Anchorage Crystal Cup 2007. I have lived in Anchorage since 1988.

Happy Mother's Day!

I was introduced to weight-lifting by my Mother and her friend when I was 12 years old. I saw how disciplined they were with their protein shakes and fancy weight-lifting gloves and I wanted to get in on the action. My Mom warned me that they were serious and if I wasn't going to to be, then I shouldn't waste my time or theirs. I begged and pleaded for a gym membership and in my whiniest, most annoying voice cried that I could in fact hold my own at the gym and I wouldn't be a nuisance to them.

Well it turned out that my dedication to the gym was not as disciplined as theirs. I still hear sarcastic remarks from my Mom about how unfocused I was at the beginning of my weight-lifting days. I here the same story to this day, "You almost dropped that weight on my head because you were too busy watching other people workout instead of spotting me!" I literally heard this just yesterday for the zillionth time.

Modeling with the guns out...Modeling with the guns out...

I'm happy to say that I've come a long way since then. I've competed and won a few bodybuilding competitions and I have my Mother to thank for sparking my interest in bodybuilding and nutrition. A healthy lifestyle takes practice and consistency and my Mom laid the foundation for this passion of mine. There would be no personal training, trophies on the shelf or this blog if it weren't for her. So I wanted to dedicate this to her and let her know she is an awesome workout partner and an inspiration to me everyday. She works hard to stay healthy and has been an incredible role model to me all of these years. She is my best friend.

Mom flexin'Mom flexin'

The best part is I get to boss her around and keep her focused during our workouts now. Just kidding Mom, have a wonderful Mother's Day- I love you!

Give your Mom the gift of health this Mother's Day with a gym membership, personal training package or a gift card for a spa treatment. Nothing else matters in life if you don't have good health. Happy Mother's Day to all of the Moms out there!
