I wasn't able to get a post up in time to cover this show which took place Saturday, April 5th 2008 at the Egan Center. I wanted to offer a belated congratulations to every competitor at the show, it was amazing!
I was very pleased to see a packed stage full of female bodybuilders, a category that has sometimes seen only a few competitors in recent years. Lisa Curry was the women's overall winner and she looked incredible! Lisa was definitely one of the most conditioned athletes onstage, nice work.
George Hartley took the men's overall title and undoubtedly earned it with his aesthetically pleasing V-Taper and conditioning. He showed his enthusiasm for winning by pulling off a backflip onstage before collecting his overall trophy.
Sheila Bratten won first place in the Figure competition and sported some great symmetry and unbelievable abs! Sheila has magnificent stage presence that can be seen from the back of the room -and her smile is contagious!
Jack and Vicky Phipps always have a great mixed pairs routine and are fun to watch as they always bring a lot of energy to the stage, you both are very inspirational- keep rockin' the shows you two!
Cindy Roediger and George Hartley put on a great show in the mixed pairs division as well and ended up taking the overall title.
I'm not able to cover every athlete who competed, but would personally like to thank each person for training all winter and sharing their hard work with all of us. Each competitor brought something special and all were a thrill to watch.
Competitive bodybuilding takes a lot of discipline, hard work and of course GUTS to get on a stage in front of a room full of strangers. I'm proud to be a part of the Alaska bodybuilding community.
