A man who was found passed out in his vehicle in Girdwood tried to run from troopers as they were investigating him for driving under the influence. Troopers caught up with him in the woods a short time later. See the dispatch below--

Text: On 4/15/08 at approximately 0001 hours while investigating a
report of a hit-and-run collision in Wasilla, Alaska State Troopers
contacted the driver of a white 2006 Dodge pickup. Investigation
revealed Jacob S. Smith, age 29 of Wasilla, was operating the vehicle
and under the influence of alcohol. Investigation also revealed Smith
was operating the vehicle on a suspended Colorado license. Smith was
arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pretrial where bail was set at
$7500.00 cash and CATP.

Text: On 04/14/2008, at approximately 0310 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to the Knik River Bridge area at Mile 32 of the Glenn Highway
for a Motor Vehicle Collision involving a single vehicle on the bridge.
The vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet Pickup, driven by Jeremiah Bernardo, age
30 of Wasilla, slid out of control while traveling South on the Glenn
Highway's Knik River Bridge and became high centered on the concrete
bridge divider. Due to the position of the vehicle and the location of
the Motor vehicle Accident the South Bound Lane of the Glenn Highway was
shutdown for approximately one hour. The driver and sole occupant of the
vehicle was wearing his seat belt at the time of the incident and
sustained no injures as a result of the collision. Damages to the
vehicle were minor. Alcohol was not a factor in this incident.

Text: On 4/14/08 at approximately 1530 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to the Meadow Lakes Fire Department on Pittman Road for a
report of a MVC victim being brought there. Investigation revealed a
2000 Dodge Dakota, driven by Amanda Braly, 17 of Wasilla, was eastbound
on Meadow Lakes Drive when it lost control and struck a tree. After
another vehicle helped tow them back onto the roadway, a passenger in
the vehicle eventually drove Braly to the Fire Department after she lost
consciousness. Braly and one of her two passengers reported wearing
safety belts. Braly was the only occupant to suffer injuries. Damage
to the vehicle was estimated at $2,000. She was issued citations for
Basic Speed and Operating a Vehicle in Violation of a Provisional
License.

Type: DUI, Resisting Arrest
Text: On 4-14-08, at 2011 hours, a Girdwood Trooper and Girdwood EMS
responded to N. Higher Terrace in Girdwood for the report of a
unresponsive man in the driver's seat of a running vehicle.
Investigation revealed Henry Dawson Gates, age 23 of Homer, passed out
in the driver's seat of his 1996 Toyota Pickup. The vehicle was running
in reverse and EMS workers safely extricated and woke Gates from his
vehicle. Gates refused medical treatment. Gates was being investigated
for DUI when he ran from the Trooper through the woods. Gates was
arrested for DUI and Resisting Arrest. He was later remanded to
Anchorage Jail.

Text: On 4/12/08, at approximately 1752 hours, a Trooper from Girdwood
conducted a traffic stop on a minivan for speeding within the Highway
Safety Corridor near mile 94 of the Seward Hwy. Investigation revealed
that the driver of the van, Jason Hayes, age 25 of Anchorage, had an
outstanding $2,500.00 warrant for his arrest. The warrant was issued as
the result of an Anchorage Police Department investigation into a report
of Assault 2nd Degree and Assault 4th Degree. Hayes was transported to
and remanded to the Anchorage Jail.

Text: On 4/12/08 at approximately 1643 hours, Alaska State Troopers
stopped a gray 2003 Jeep Cherokee for a moving violation near mile 15.0
of the Seward Highway. The driver, and only occupant, was contacted and
identified as Shane Iknokinok, age 33 of Anchorage. A check of
NCIC/APSIN revealed Iknokinok's Operator's License was in revoked
status. Iknokinok was issued a summons for DWLR and released. The
vehicle was released to a valid driver.

Text: On 4-9-08, Brian T. O'Donnell, 43 YOA from Honolulu, HI, was
cited by the Soldotna Post of the Alaska Wildlife Troopers.
Investigation revealed that O'Donnell purchased a resident fishing
license in 2007 when he has never lived in AK. Bail was set at $310.
