What specific Alaska summer/fall experience should everyone have at least once before they kick the bucket? Post your ideas below or e-mail Mike Dunham at mdunham@adn.com.

ONE GOAL..B4UDIE......COME BACK HOME!
One goal I have is- to move back to my "home" where my heart and soul has always been and will always be. Fairbanks, Alaska and I was up there in 2002 and I promise if it is in God's plan for me and my dogs, I will be back home! I'll be honest my heart has never left AK - I know more about what is going on in the news than I do in CT, and I miss the refreshing cold weather. I am definitely not a hot and humid person. Midnight Baseball
can't wait.....the sky, mountains, & UNPAVED GROUND!!
we had the aurora burealis once in CT - does not measure to Alaska's aurora's.

Everyone should attend the Midnight Sun baseball game at Growden park in Fairbanks at least once. The game starts late in the evening, no lights are turned on, if you sit in the right section, you can watch the Midnight Sun marathon go by. You can have a hot dog, get beer from an actual beer girl that comes up in the stands, listen to the game on your portable radio, and hope a foul ball comes your way.

This is exactly what we're hoping for: an experience that someone can have no where else except in Alaska, and those midnight sunlit games in Fairbanks are certainly something we have all to ourselves. Good idea!

My vacation to AK in 2006 was perfect - rather than try to decide a few things to do, we tried a wide variety. Flew into Anchoriage and immediately left for Talkeetna, where we spent our first night (such a wild little town!). From there we drove to Denali and on to Fairbanks. Flew up to Barrow on the 4th of July to spend the day. Left Fairbanks and took the Richardson Hwy. down that side of the state, ending up that night in Lake Louise. From Lake Louise to Anchorage again. From Anchorage, took the train to Whittier and cruised around the sound. Later went down to the Kenai River to fish, and on to Homer. The sightseeing throughout the trip was magnificent! I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. We wound up driving approximately 1500 miles in 2 weeks. The time simply flew by. We came back again the following year and bought 10 acres of land in Anchor Point. Now we're planning on returning in May for some preliminary cabin building adventures. It just doesn't get any better than Alaska, whichever part of it you wish to visit. We plan to retire there in a few years, and cannot wait!

Turning on the shower only to find there is no hot water and having to shower in the spray of fine icicle-cold water. Its a real eye opener.

As I get ready for my 25th trip to your wonderful state I say there is magic and mystery around every corner. To see the wildlife,to see the glaciers ,to see Denali, the Northern Lights these are things you really have to see and then the many other things also.the beautiful dogs of the Iditarod the many ethnic cultures and yes still have the feeling of The Last Frontier.

See someplace in Alaska
See someplace in Alaska that's outside of Anchorage, the Kenai, or Valley.
