AWT Press Release: Illegal Sale of Big Game Trophies
In recent months, the Division of Alaska Wildlife Troopers noticed a continual growth of advertisements for the sale of big game trophies. This trend is growing with the popularity of online classified and auction sale sites.
Alaska Administrative Code 5 AAC 92.200(b) prohibits, among others, the sale of: any part of a bear except an article of handicraft made from the fur only; big game trophies which are defined as the mount of a big game animal in a lifelike representation made from any part of a big game animal; big game animal skulls and horns or antlers that are still attached to any part of the skull.
These prohibitions include bear rugs from either black, brown or grizzly bears and ‘head and shoulder’ mounts of any big game, including European mounts.
AWT is trying to educate the public in hopes of preventing this illegal activity.
