Bill Starr is vindicated?

$250 dollar votes, telling the police chief he better make the rank and file like him, stating the police union was going to be F$%#ed in the future. Starr feels vindicated. I am ashamed I voted for him last time around.

  March 30, 2008 - 10:09pm | predictable

It's not his fault...

The reason many people voted for Mr.Starr last election was because we had a new fresh candidate that had a great background and promise to work on getting the assembly back to representing Eagle River residents, a platform he was proud of. Unfortunately he got tied up with Mr.Coffey's band of yes men/women and ruined his reputation in his short time seated. These assembly members need to see what their involvement "behind the curtain" will do to their future.

  April 1, 2008 - 3:12am | REDHOTS

I don't like the bias adn

They excluded those who filed for an 'exempt' with APOC. I know one candidate refused all contributions from special interests and is being black-balled by ADN. Very shameful on their behalf. Eagle River candidate Anthony Lemons purposely refused contributions and is being publicly outcasted for it.

  2     March 28, 2008 - 3:45pm | REDHOTS

Here are my predictions due to redundancy.

ADN will endorse Flynn, Brand, Drummond, Gutierrez, and Kenney. Lets see how close I am. If I am off by one or none, than the ADN 'election endorsers' are more predictable than they think they are, and should simply remain a fair and balanced media outlet, reporting on politics, rather than being involved.

Update: I was off by only one.

  March 30, 2008 - 9:57pm | predictable

Lost me...

My guess is you were looking to include Gray-Jackson as one of your "predictions". The ADN chose to endorse Traini in this race.
That would be your one loss, correct?

So was Traini their sympathy vote thrown in for everyone that feels they might be leaning?

  April 1, 2008 - 3:13am | REDHOTS

Elvi wasn't against anyone....

when I made the predictions. Traini wasn't yet vindicated by the courts at the time.

Not every candidate has been invited

I am running against Patrick Flynn on the Section 1, Seat B, Downtown, and have not been invited by the ADN Editoral Board to be interviewed. I wonder why?

Chris Blankenship
Seat B Candidate

  March 25, 2008 - 12:44pm | editorial_views

Why the editorial board didn't interview everyone

Note from the editorial staff:
We have limited time for interviews and in this case, Blankenship had no noticeable community or political experience in Anchorage, and indicated he would not be a competitive candidate by declaring that he planned to raise and spend less than $5,000 against a candidate who raised and spent considerably more.

ADN And Money

The ADN supports big money, the even support VECO and old corrupt Gov Frank. The ADN supports the city budget going up, but not controlling spending because their allies in the MOA.
The ADN always slants their views, they do not follow correct journalism, this is becauseof who runs and owns the ADN. They have have been doing this for many years. The ADN ALWAYS support BIG MONEY and BIG GOVERNMENT and they always will.
The little guy has never won an election, you always have to be backed by lots and lots of money to get in office.
I am trying to change that right now. Many of my oppinions on the ADN.COM site have been removed becasue the ADN doesn't like people who do not see there way or want to slow down or stop pet projects by their close friends.
So in the ADN you DO NOT HAVE FREEDOM OF THE PRESS, THE ADN should be called the AMERICAN CENSORSHIP DAILY NEWS.

KEEP BIG MONEY OUT OF THE ASSEMBLY

VOTE CHRIS BLANKENSHIP SEAT B APRIL 1

A little free advice on message Chris,

You are coming across as a bit of a wing nut. And I would steer clear of the F-Bomb from now on too.

  March 30, 2008 - 5:58pm | kme_eone

Thank you

Yossarian,

Thank you for your advice. I will try to tone things down and come across more mainstream. I once again apologize for use of the foul language.

Chris

advice

Everyone has their oppinion in the country. I apologize for my language, I should have used other words.
I am tired of our spineless Assembly, always backing down when big money gets involved. Big money can go and spend it on the have nots, since all of the haves, already have plenty. I was not raised on big money, I was raised working hard for very little.
People say the care about Fairview and Mountain View, but we already have affordable housing, we need to help repair what we have here first.
700 million for a port that has short falls could be spent for the poorer sides of Anchorage, and helping with property taxes, our kids education to get better teachers.
The problem with education is the parents of the kids, get them involved, tell the parents the kids do not need the video games as babysitters. Parents need to get more involved in getting their kids to do their homework, tell the kids no games, no cell phones until your grades come up to a B or A. Let us learn from the top performing charter schools here, and apply that to the ASD.
Look at the plans for Tudor Road and Lake Otis. Talk about a disaster waiting to happen. Let us build more lanes to increase the traffic congestion. Why not employ a design in the ballpark of the Glenn Highway/ Bragraw work at the Tudor and Lake Otis intersection or like the work on the Wasilla/ Palmer inter-change?
I want to learn from my errors and bring people together. Let people know I am not that bad of person. You do not like the words of the person, but you can like the person himself.
I will get more involved in my city and learn more of what is going on to present very detailed information to the citizens I wish to represent.
I want a person from the have nots, to represent the also the haves.
I apologize for my words.

  March 29, 2008 - 11:20pm | Yossarian

Chris,

You obviously feel disenfranchised and that is not to be ignored. There is a statesman in you if you can learn to reign in your passion and control it. A voice from the have nots should be an essential aspect of any true democracy but you have to realize every word counts. As a representative of the people words mean everything. They have the power to move people, for or against you. Politicians live and die by the words they use. I applaud your courage for running. You hang in there.

  March 30, 2008 - 6:16pm | kme_eone

Thank you

Yossarian,

I need to control my enthusiasm, sometimes it gets me into trouble.
I am concerned some people think you have to come from big money to be on the Assembly, and raise and spend more than 5,000.00 to be "competitive" in an election. I am trying to work my hardest in this election.

Thank you for the good advice, I will hang in there.

Chris

  April 1, 2008 - 2:10am | Yossarian

Hey,

I am happy to see they got your video on the web. You did great. Good move on shaving the mustache too, you look way better without it.

  April 1, 2008 - 11:35pm | kme_eone

Thank you

Thank you, I am already working on the next election.
I guess I should say I only spent 737.00 on my campaign to get 24% of the votes. Does this sound like I used my money wisely? If I spend 1,500.00 will I get 50% of the votes in three year?
Now to work on other things.

  March 26, 2008 - 1:28am | kme_eone

What?

Where on the APOC forms did I indicate I would not be competitive? I missed that on the forms, guess I need to admend my form at the city clerks office.

  March 26, 2008 - 4:19am | REDHOTS

You're not alone.

Anthony Lemons has refused to accept contributions for his campaign. This must be why he was also left out of many election arcticles regarding the Eagle River Race. The ADN only want Democrats/Liberals to win the Assembly Seats. If you are a Democrat and accept contributions(Bribes and I.O.U.'s), the Daily News will support you, simply to fuel their agenda. Janet Brand and Bill Starr get plenty of coverage, and Lemons gets left out. Why? Money rules the political World. Disgraceful. As for "leading candidates", they have no idea the true sentiment of the citizens. People are tired of candidates who win based on the money they collect. Don't worry Mr. Blankenship; the Daily News and others will be quite surprised by the election results. Eagle River WILL have a Republican serving after April 1st, thus not allowing a monopoly on the assembly.

  March 30, 2008 - 6:32pm | kme_eone

Thank you REDHOTS

Thank you. I just get tired of people saying it takes money to win an election. It actually takes votes to win, and yes there are people out there buying votes with money. Also you have to be RED or BLUE to be in office also from elite society, and wealthy to be in office.
People say I do not have political experience, well the way I see it, then that means I do not owe anyone anything. I am repsonsible to the working and voting people of Anchorage.
George Washington was a rookie and look he got to be President of the US.
I am being comepetitive. I have 110 yards signs made and most of them put out. I have over 2,000 flyers made and passed out with more to hand out today and the next few days. I have been to every one of the Candidate Forums I have been invited to. Tonight I will be appearing along with Patrick Flynn on Channel 7 KAKM "Runninng" forum, and this will be broadcast also on 91.1 FM.
Some people are not taking me serious because i have a slight stutter when I get real nervous. James Earl Jone, Mel Tillis, and many other famous people have the same thing, look at my website www.blankenshipforassembly.blogspot.com and you will see just a short list of who has stuttered throughout time.
I can be reached at 276-3397 or kme_eones@yahoo.com if anyone has questions or would like one of my very bright signs for their home or vehicle.

Thank you,

Chris Blankenship

Competitive?

I forgot if you have lots of money you are considered competitive, and if you do have enough money you aren't. Why don't we let the voters of Anchorage decide?
I guess it is true about people, if you have money, you have a shoe in for office always. If you don't, go crawl back under a rock, and be happy with what the rich people in office give you.
Everyone one on the Assembly has lots of money, guess that makes them qualified.
If the Anchorage Daily News was around during the start of this nation they would say George Washington was unqualified to be President.
Guess it is true, BIG MONEY does control elections. You are graded on how much money you raise, not what you stand on.
The time has come to have someone from the poor side of Anchorage. I won't be influenced by BIG MONEY.
It is time the people who actually make up this city take back the Assembly from BIG MONEY.

Leading Candidates?

LEADING CANDIDATES? WHAT POLLS HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO SHOW WHO IS A LEADING CANDIDATE?
THE EDITORIAL STAFF OF THIS PAPER SHOULD GIVE TO EACH CANDIDATE THE RESULTS OF THE POLLS THEY HAVE TAKEN TO SHOW WHO THE "LEADING CANDIDATE" IS.
This shows you this paper is not fair in it's reporting.
What happens if Patrick Flynn doesn't get elected, talk about egg in the face of the ADN Editorial Stafff.
Lets show the staff at the ADN you can't censor the anyone, and VOTE CHRIS BLANKENSHIP FOR ASSEMBLY SEAT B.
LETS TAKE BACK THE PRESS FROM BIG MONEY.

ELECT CHRIS BLANKENSHIP, SEAT B
