My friend Marie & I have been trying to trap a young kitten who was hanging out near Benson & Cope. After trying for 4 weeks, we finally caught it yesterday. The kitten appears to be approx 8-9 weeks old at this time. We're not sure where it came from, but suspect it may have come from an unwanted female japanese bobtail that someone dumped in the area. It is the only kitten that has been seen, and the mother has not been seen for about a month. The poor kitten has been on it's own for quite a while, and has been staying with a few feral cats in the area. If it hadn't been for Marie providing food and a semi-warm place to stay, this kitten may not have made it. Who can count the number of unwanted cats in the Anchorage area living under trailers and houses, and reproducing, and dying due to lack of caring.
I took it home last night, and placed the opened cat carrier inside an extra large wire dog crate covered with a blanket. The kitty is scared to death, has been throwing itself at the walls trying to escape. Hopefully in a few days, it will calm down. I am hoping to tame this cat so it will be adoptable some day. If anyone wishes to help me out by fostering this kitty and taming it, please let me know.
