This week's topic is dog training, namely: Where do you take your dogs for obedience training, how is it set up and how is it working for you?
That's probably the one question I hear most often from new dog owners. They want to get their dogs trained in obedience or a dog sport, but they don't know their options. Since starting the Dog Blog, I've discovered there are a lot more options than I realized.
We have the larger schools like Alyeska Canine Trainers, and their training usually consists of 45-minute classes once a week for eight weeks. But we also have private trainers and specialized classes all over the state.
For anyone either teaching those lessons or attending them, explain the differences. Are the schedules flexible? What size are the classes? Are private lessons worth it?
I see this topic as a good reference for new dog owners. Bonus points go to anyone providing a Web link and/or phone number to the school(s) you discuss.
