An Alaska Reunion In Chicago

The Chicago Wolves' dramatic 4-3 overtime win against the Peoria Rivermen in The Windy City on Thursday night was flush with Alaska connections.

Former Alaska Aces center Julian Talbot scored his team-high ninth goal for Peoria to tie the American Hockey League game with just 20 seconds left in regulation, and the primary assist came from defenseman Ryan Glenn, who served a stint with the Aces this season. Brett Sterling scored the game winner for Chicago with 29 seconds left to complete his hat trick, and his primary assist came from winger Joey Crabb of Anchorage -- Sterling and Crabb were teammates for four seasons at Colorado College.

(And, gee, think Sterling is a sniper? He has 11 goals in 12 AHL games this season, which gives the second-year pro 66 goals in 89 career AHL games. All he did in college was score 108 goals in 149 games).

Anyhow, Sterling's goals Thursday came against Peoria goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu, who was making his fourth straight start after being promoted from the Aces. Also skating for Peoria were former Aces Charles Linglet and Ryan Reaves.

Even the officiating crew had an Alaska twist: Linesman Justin Lyle is from Anchorage.
