At last, the weekend of bootie begins!
Between the Dance Together Festival at UAA all weekend and the urban Street Smarts concert by the Underground Dance Company at West High on Sunday, no one can blame a lack of floor space or music for wasting away on idle backsides. You can shake some bootie on the fly by showing up at UAA Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but buy tickets in advance for the Underground dance concert. The place packed them in last time.
If you prefer working out your mind, not your behind, don't discount "Einstein Alive!" as a show just for school-age kids, despite Alaska Junior Theatre' role in getting the production to Anchorage. Amazingly enough, Marc Spiegel manages to sustain conceptual theory, real-world applications and embarrassing body noises in one fell swoop, nevermind the big hair and sight gags. At a school show last week, a few kids took naps and the sound quality wavered now and again, but most of third- and fourth-graders looked on with rapt expressions of curiosity, pondering how a legendary scientist, labeled a genius in old age, was once treated like an impertinent, incorrigible troublemaker for asking questions the authorities couldn't answer.
Check it out at the Discovery Theatre. Go to Alaska Junior Theatre for details.
Look for more comments about shows around town this weekend. In the meantime, what's your pick of the week?
