Any dog owner who has lived in Alaska for a season or two knows that dogs and moose don't mix. The standard encounter goes something like this: Dog barks at moose, moose charges dog, dog races back to owner with moose on its heels. It can get ugly in a hurry. This week, tell us about your moose encounters. And tell us what you do to avoid moose while on walks with your dogs.

PET FOOD RECALL
An Ontario-based company has announced the recall of millions of bags and cans of dog and cat food sold across North America, and at least some Alaska stores were pulling the products off the shelves.
See the press release and find a list of the brands in question at www.menufoods.com/recall. The company also designated two phone numbers that pet owners could call for information - 1-866-463-6738 and 1-866-895-2708, but callers kept the lines busy for much of Saturday.
PICTURE OF THE WEEK

The theme of the week was dogs with their buddies, and you don't get much chummier than Suzanne Beacham's spooning bullmastiffs, Lily and Tonka.
Suzanne assures us that Tonka, the large, affectionate one, is neutered, so get your minds out of the gutter!
There were a bunch of great pictures on the theme last week. For just plain cute, it was hard to beat Marie L. Fitts' McKinley with buddy Tiger. And if there was a Happy Family award, it would go to Frank Ruckel's gang, who look like they found a perfect addition when they adopted Abigail from Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue. I also loved Stephanie McHenry's shot of Bauer talking a break after pulling a sled with two of the cutest kids around. And for best friends, how do you top Steve Kreinbrink's healthy looking duo, Shadow and Siopao, playing in the snow?
Right after I'd cut off theme entries for the week, a late update Monday produced another of my favorites: Christie McFarland's goldens.
THIS WEEK'S PICTURE THEME
Send us your best picture and funny caption combination. The caption can either be from the dog's perspective or yours. As usual, if you don't have a good picture on the theme, just submit one of your favorites.
Note: For theme purposes, the week begins and ends on Mondays after the first update of the gallery.
