Alaskans, your dogs rock. We asked for photos, and you delivered more than 130 the first week. It was heartening to see that, in the land of the working sled dog, pet owners have a sense of humor. The antlers and Santa hats were a nice touch, Heather Roberts and Tanja Morris. And Andre Kaeppele, the Aces could use Harley in his hockey gear come playoff time. As for Asha P., I've got just the Yorkie to fit in Shanie's saddle. Alaskans, you are fanatical about your dogs, but you're in good company. Keep the pictures coming.

Picture of the week:
This was a tough call, but the honor goes to Jocelyn Krebs. Her comment: "This is my dog Decaf, crashed at Archangel after a day of trying REALLY HARD to catch a ground squirrel." If that isn't the Alaska canine spirit, I don't know what is. Runner-up is Molly Deming's Five Sausages in a Bun.

Picture theme of the week: Snow
Send in your snow pictures! You can send in others, too, but the theme of the week is dogs in the snow. Come on. The fresh powder should make for some great shots.

Pets in the news:
Three cheers for Baby Face Nelson, Gail Painter's bull mastiff who won Alaska Mill & Feed's first Pet Idol competition on Feb. 10. My money was on Dallas, the brilliant golden retriever owned by Kathy Buesseler, but Baby Face Nelson definitely displayed the "It" factor when he leaped through the ring of fake fire.
