First Friday looks bomb-proof tonight with everything from a group show focused on the human body to several essay readings about the human condition, not to mention an intriguing post-First Friday performance of "Death" at the MTS Gallery in the Trailer Art Center on 3142 Mountain View drive.
This piece by Vlad Basarab enlists several local artists and will appear again in a different form at a MTS Gallery installation later this year. Expect a new media exhibit with video from several pieces of performance art like Basarab's work at the Ken Gray Solstice Celebration last December.
Did I mention you can eat and drink at the MTS Gallery, too, and that Noble's Diner does the catering? The place opens 8 to 10 p.m. every First Friday, but head over by 8:30 p.m. tonight to see "Death" and the Out of the Jewelry Box exhibit.
The "Retablos" show by Mariano Gonzales looks provocative, too. Think icons and altars, satire and politics. Gonzales never fails to make someone squirm and it just might be you. "Retablos" will show all month at Kaladi's Downtown Cafe, but the reception happens between 6 and 8 p.m. tonight.
Check something out and tell us about it.
