Thanks

Thank you for the kind words. Scott will be missed greatly. It was a lovely service. His brothers entire recruiting unit was there. A SSgt from Scott's unit was there also along with the detail from Ft Lewis. My uncle is a colonel and gave with the govenor and the Montana Guard commander to the funeral. We also had a blackhawk fly over. It was probably the second biggest funeral our small town of Harrison, MT has ever had. There are about 200 people in Harrison. I counted well over 500 people there.

My Friend Scotty

Scott was a true Montanan. He was raised in Harrison, a small farming/ranching community between Butte and Bozeman. His parents divorced when he was young and he moved with his mom and brother to Helena. When I got out of the Cavalry in 1997 I moved to Helena to be close to the VA Hospital. Scotty and I reconnected at this time. He spent many weekends with my brother and I at my house. He was an excellent boxer, bull rider, and supreme saddle bronc rider. He got a great job on a logging crew with Frank Valvo of Harrison. My brother graduated with him and Ben needed a good job. So in true Scotty fashion he got Ben a job on the crew. Our time spent together I always talked about my service and how great and honorable it was to serve. After 9/11 Scott knew what I was talking about and took the plunge. So yes, I feel responsible for his death. His brother Mike is serving also, he joined right after Scott. Scott also rode broncs for my dad. Dad mentioned this morning that Scott had excellent balance. He was a good cowboy. Very mechanically gifted too. I remember when Scott was helping me move in Helena he was anxious to get to the beer drinking. I said the only thing left to do was clean the house. Scott commented, "I thought that's what the cleaning deposit was for. So you could trash the place and move out." That was Scott he had a great sense of humor. And I can see the copenhagen in his mouth in the picture on this site. Always had a chew in. I'll miss Scott greatly as I'm sure everyone in Helena will. I loved him. I feel guilty that I was enjoying my new daughter born on the 19th while he was dying for his country. I tried to get back in so young men like him wouldn't have to die. But alas I was too disabled by 9/11.
