Soldiers from the 172nd Stryker Brigade thought their service in Iraq was complete when they were recently sent home to Fort Wainwright. But 300 troops will soon be sent back to meet up with the rest of the brigade, which is stationed in Baghdad, one of the most violent parts of the country.
The 300 soldiers recalled from Alaska got to spend between three and five weeks at home. Army officials have sent a team of personnel and pay experts to Alaska to help sort out all of the soldiers' vacations, school enrollments and other plans torn apart by the decision to return them to Iraq.

Recall 172nd Stryker Brigade
This decision was illogical. Why take a worn down brigade to an area of such need? The mess in Baghdad did not occur overnight. My son, whom was promised a leave in May 2006 had it revoked, because "you will be going back to Alaska in June" and is now entering his 13th month overseas with no leave since arriving in Iraq. No, he is not married nor does he have children, but he still needs his family as much as anyone else.

Even Thomas Friedman says we are in a fiasco due to an unwillingness to face facts on the ground. It is heartbreaking to think your loved ones are in the hands of people who can't admit to a mistake.

As a member of Vets for Peace, my heart goes out to the Stryker families. I pray that the insane course this administration is stuck on pursuing in Iraq will be reversed by citizens speaking out. In a civil war, our soldiers are pawns of political maneuvering on all sides. Bring them home soon.

I've checked back a couple of times to read new stories from the families. It's amazing how tough these Army households can be. They are in a tough spot. I am thinking of them everyday.

It's about time!
It is an outrage that these soldiers were even home as long as they were! The soldiers left behind in Iraq that didn't get a break and didn't get to see their familes have been working double overtime with no time to rest, just to compensate for these soldiers that got to come home! They should have been on a plane going back as soon as word of the extension came down! The familes that got to see their soldiers should feel blessed that first of all they got to see their soldier and second of all that their soldier was able to rest up and will have an advantage over the soldiers still in Iraq in that they are more refreshed and therefore more ready for the arduous task they have in front of them!
