Because of uncertainty about whether the Kenai River's early-run king salmon escapement of 5,300 to 9,000 fish was achieved, the Fish and Game Department will continue to limit some Kenai River king fishing.
All five indicators used to assess the abundance of late-run Kenai kings indicate a run well below average. All department assessment methods indicate the late run is similar to the runs of 2009 and 2010.

From an ADF&G press release:
As of June 27, three out of the four measures used to assess the abundance of early-run king salmon in the Kenai River indicate that the run is well below average.
The run appears to be similar to those of 2009 and 2010, which produced escapements estimated to be near the lower bound of the optimal escapement goal of 5,300 to 9,000 early-run kings.
Because of the doubt about whether the minimum escapement of 5,300 fish will be achieved, the department will reduce the catch of early-run kings in portions of the river.
