Seward, AK – January 26, 2012 – The Alaska SeaLife Center will welcome Animal Planet Host and Leading Conservationist Jeff Corwin to the 3rd Annual Alaska Marine Gala on February 18th, 2012 at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage.
Jeff Corwin has worked for the conservation of endangered species and ecosystems around the globe. The Emmy Award-winner first gained fame for his many Animal Planet shows, including the Jeff Corwin Experience and Corwin’s Quest. More recently, he has moved on to high profile ventures with CNN and NBC News.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Alaska is inviting nominations for the 2012 Reclamation and Sustainable Mineral Development Awards. The filing deadline is Feb. 10. These awards recognize operations that embody the principles of sustainable mineral development or represent outstanding examples of environmental stewardship through mining reclamation.

Halfway to 2012 goal, pledges thus far total $1 million
ANCHORAGE, January 24, 2012 – Generous Alaskans from across the state are opting to give a portion of their 2012 Permanent Fund dividend to nonprofit causes at rates that exceed the first three years of the program. Participation rates of 4.5 percent and an average $87 per donor thus far translate into $1,003,775 in pledged gifts this year, according to data provided by the Permanent Fund Dividend Division.

Federal Subsistence Board Approves Changes to Subsistence Hunting and Trapping Regulations
The Federal Subsistence Board met January 17?20 to consider more than 100
proposed changes to Federal subsistence hunting and trapping regulations.
The new regulations will be effective July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2014.

While Alaska Airlines has not canceled any flights in advance of tomorrow's expected snowstorm, the carrier urges travelers booked on flights in to and out of Seattle tomorrow to check alaskaair.com before leaving for the airport.
