Lifelong Alaskan Sam "The Hebrew Hope" Dunham got his start in martial arts at the age of 5, taking karate lessons.

He rediscovered martial arts in college, enrolling in UAA's tae kwon do class, in which he now holds a black belt.

Eventually he sought to better round out his skill set and has been training MMA at Greatland Martial Arts since.

He has won matches at the Alaska Fighting Championship and also at Thursday Night at the Fights. He teaches kids at Tae Kwon Do USA, and makes his living as a substitute teacher for the Anchorage School District.

He can probably beat you up, but luckily he doesn't want to.

AFC 99: Results and Recaps!

The Alaska Fighting Championship showcased its pencentennial event on Wednesday, April 10th. Mostly a disappointing affair, a few moments of sheer thrills were able to save the event in the main and co-main event.

It's tough when nearly every fight ends in the first minute, but Chris 'Jawbreaker' Johnson's all-out brawl with Chase 'The Episode' Epperson was particularly scintillating. Despite the boring undercard, nobody can say they left without seeing a fight thanks to these two.

Former AFC and ACF champion Lauren 'The Pirate' Taylor won her debut in the InvictaFC organization last night, earning a unanimous decision over well-travelled veteran Kaitlin Young.

Taylor weathered an early storm, fending off multiple submission attempts in the first round to dominate rounds two and three. All three judges called it 29-28 for Taylor.

Rumor has it that Taylor's first words after the fight were, "I'm bummed I didn't finish her."

Rice Out, McAfee In For Lightweight Title Shot

Cody Rice has withdrawn from his scheduled title bout with newly minted AFC lightweight champion Gary D'Hue at AFC 99 in April. Taking Rice's place will be Fairbanks' Scott McAfee.

In accordance with AFC rules, Rice was obligated to refrain from fighting for another promotion for 30 days prior to his title fight. He instead elected to take part in the 170 pound tournament held by AK Tuesday Night Fights on March 12th, thus vacating his slot in the main event at next month's AFC.
