A 25-year-old woman threw gasoline on her sleeping roommate, set him on fire and left the room in an arson killing Friday morning in East Anchorage, police say.
Gina Virgilio is accused of first-degree murder, first-degree arson and other charges in the killing of Michael Gonzales, 24. Here's how Anchorage police described the arrest:

Subject: Arson Homicide Suspect Arrested
On 6-8-12 at 02:250 hours, Anchorage Fire Department firefighters responded to an apartment fire at 201 McCarrey Street #B-7. They discovered a deceased male in the apartment who was positively identified as 24 year old Michael Gonzales. Through the ensuing investigation, AFD Arson Investigators determined that the blaze was caused by arson. Anchorage Police Department Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators also were called into the investigation. They were assisted by personnel from the Alaska State Fire Marshall’s office.
On 6-9-12 APD detectives arrested Gina Virgilio, 25 on charges of Murder 1st degree, Arson 1st degree, Arson 2nd degree, Criminal Mischief 1st degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd degree. Reckless Endangerment, and Assault 4th degree. Investigators believe that Gina Virgilio threw gasoline onto her roommate Michael Gonzales while he was asleep on the couch in their apartment. She then lit the gasoline and then left the apartment. Michael Gonzales died as a result of the fire.
The fire also completely destroyed the apartment in which the couple lives and forced the evacuation of approximately 18 other apartments. Some of the evacuated persons required medical attention at local hospitals for smoke inhalation. Several of the apartments were smoke damaged.
Gina Virgilio is scheduled to be arraigned on 6-10-12 after 13:30 hours.
