Project manager Dustin Highers discusses the Southcentral Power Project located at the Chugach Electric Association headquarters off International Airport Road in Anchorage.
The new efficient combined-cycle 183-megawatt power plant will be shared 70/30 between Chugach Electric and Municipal Light & Power.
The power plant will have three natural gas-fired turbine generators, three boilers and one steam turbine generator that will be approximately 25-percent more efficient than current power plants saving customers about $30 million in natural gas costs when the plant is fully operational.
Construction of the project is expected to be completed around December 2012.
