World record pumpkin contender

Dale Marshall started a pumpkin plant in his Anchorage greenhouse on April 1. Five months later, he is looking to break the Alaska and world records for pumpkin size in judging at the Alaska State Fair.

At an estimated 1,780 pounds, the pumpkin stands to smash Marshall's current Alaska record of 1,101 pounds, set at the state fair last year. The world record is above 1,800 pounds.
